The 2015 Cinsaut is a light to medium bodied wine with notes of ripe raspberries and black pepper on the nose and palate. Soft, velvety tannins highlight this wines spice and warmth. The wine finishes with aromas of French oak lending to the delicate richness this wine has to offer. Cellar for up to 2 years.
Cinsaut is a lesser-known Rhône varietal and one of the thirteen approved grapes grown in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of Southern France. Historically, it has been used primarily for blending. Here in California, however, it's quickly gaining popularity as a single varietal and is certain to have a bright and promising future.
Cinsaut generally produces a wine low in tannin and acidity with ripe strawberry and floral notes. It is often blended with Grenache and Carignan to add softness and bouquet. Outside of France, Cinsaut is most well known in South African where it was crossed with Pinot Noir to create South Africa’s signature Pinotage.
Pairing suggestion – Cinsaut pairs well with stews as well as braised and roasted meat dishes featuring beef, lamb, duck, pork and chicken.
